Tanzania Zanzibar is a blend of peaberry coffees from various high-altitude estates in southern Tanzania (Lunji, Utengule and Kanji Lanji Estates) and northern Tanzania (Mondul, Burka, Ngila and Lyamungu Estates). About 5% of a coffee tree’s output are peaberries which are considered a mutation. Instead of the standard two seeds (beans) per coffee cherry there is just one, a round oval shaped seed. In most cases peaberries are mixed in with the rest of the coffee, but in this case they were sorted out by hand. The result is a beautifully uniform coffee that boasts flavors of chocolate, tangerine, and cranberry.
